So, May 13th is Top Gun Day! I’m dating myself big time, but OMG…in my mind the music and movies from 1984 to 1986 were simply the best in history. Okay, I am a bit biased. 😉😉😉
When Top Gun came out in the summer of 1986, it was something to just salivate over. The jets, the desert, the maneuvers in and out of the sky. There was the music by Kenny Loggins and Berlin. There was the Rights Brothers music scene in the bar. There was the silhouetted love scene between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. There was the relationship between Maverick and Goose; Maverick and Iceman; Maverick and Viper. OMG. The drama, the romance, the bodies, the swag…this movie had it going on in every scene. It was one of those “the planets aligned”, “every department on set was working”, “even the donuts were perfect”. It just all worked. Epilogue – fast forward to the follow-up, Maverick, which worked even more.
❓❓❓Anyway, what does this have to do with the Library of Congress ❓❓❓
Check out this Twitter post from our 14th Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden below. Very impressive. I’m so proud and honored to be a librarian. Best degree I ever got! That’s the truth.
